Curriculum, instruction, and student activities are not specifically covered but there is much information listed that can provide locations and ways to access this information. In many cases, the same methods and sources covered here can be used to do research in these areas. The Web site and Catalog can provide a starting point with the names of additional offices that cover academic life and serve students, as well as programs and activities to look for. Sources cited in VI. – VIII. are representative and are not intended to be exhaustive. General Sources, Special Files and Documents, and Newspapers should always be considered for further information. The Facilities Department has extensive materials on all site and architectural plans and construction throughout the history of the College. PATHFINDER TABLE OF CONTENTS I. General Sources PageII. The Office of Research has an extensive listing of “Research Studies” online, as well as much older information that is not online. The Illinois Community College Board Web site is also valuable and is included here. HOURS OFFICES AVAILABLE FOR RESEARCH Days Monday to Friday (Monday-Thursday from late May-mid August). Confirm with office. A reference librarian (Des Plaines Campus 847-635-1644, Ray Hartstein Campus 847-635-1474) will help you find the correct office and number if you do not know it. If you can not find the information in an Oakton office, or need additional information, the library will help you to locate it elsewhere. To use public information available in Oakton Community College offices: Telephone or visit the office you believe can help with your information need. For all locations outside of the Library, Instructional Media Services, and the Archives, the materials are not generally organized for immediate access. There also may not be historical information available beyond certain legal requirements. They will let you know if there is the possibility of having any of the information you need, and you can arrange a time to see it. The materials must then be used in the office. Note: Most all information listed in this pathfinder is as of July, 2005, with some limited updating to spring, 2007. Of course, with time, organizational structures and locations of materials can change. This pathfinder will still provide background knowledge of what has been published and documented. It will also provide direction on the kind of more current information and likely sources that should continue to be available in some location or format. Links last checked July 15, 2009.
